The Richest Grass race in Australia


Every year on the Easter weekend you have thousands of athletes from travel from across Australia to the local town of Stawell, 237km North West of Melbourne with the hopes of making the history books.


The racing this year was something if the ages with the groundkeepers able to make the oval look in better condition than the MCG with the event getting underway on Easter Saturday. It was a red hot day both on the track and with the weather with lighting quick times as well as a hot day in the town Stawell.


Easter Sunday started with the Easter Egg Hunt for the kids then returned back to the action with Semi finals and finals of the 70m as well as the heats for the 200m and the little athletic taking place


Easter Monday was the big day, The main race the Powercore and Change our Game mens and womens 120m gift along with the Adidas 1000m invitation with the Olympic 800m athelte Peter Bol racing. The weather for the final day of competition had changed dramatically with the hot days gone and in true Victorian fashion was due to have 20mm of rain.


The Rain went from a light drizzle to a downpour just had the Adidas 1000m invitational was starting and within 15 mintues the oval was Flooded and the PowerCore and Change our Game 120m Gift Races where postponed for 2 hours as we waited for a break in the weather as well as the grounds keepers doing their best to remove as much water from the track as possible.


With a small break in the weather they got the races underway and the Change Our Game womens gift and the Favourite over the weekend Chloe Manixx-Power Won the $40,000 in Great Fashion bringing the Viking Athletics and Brett Robinson their 6th Win at the Stawell Gift

Jack Lacey was the Winner of the Powercore mens 120m Running of a handicap of 9.5m with a strong finish and fighting off the Athletes coming in fast from behind which led him to become the 138 winner of the Stawell Gift
